Title
Baby not gaining weight

Question
Hi Rachel I have been doing the goo free thing since your talk in Gore and am really enjoying the benefits. My 9mth old's skin is looking wonderful (eczema), having the odd slip up but otherwise doing great. I have also lost quite a bit of weight which is an added bonus. Before we started there was some concern that my wee man was not putting on enough weight. He put on about 200gm between 3 and 5 months. Then started to put on again so we thought he was ok. He will be 9 months on the 17th of this month and I have just weighed him and he is only 7.1kg. Was 6.96 in July. I am wondering if my breastmilk is just not good enough. He is eating solids also, wonder if I am not giving him enough. My first child had a top up of formula before bed every night from 8 weeks and he was a big healthy baby. I don't want to go backwards and give him formula but am wondering if he is old enough to give pasturised or raw cows milk? He seems happy and alert, rolling, saying some words etc. But I am terrified that I am doing something wrong. Any advice would be gratefully received. Regards Dione

Answer
Hi Dione, Great to hear things going well for your family. He will soon let you know if he is not getting enough........especially night time. But I would supplement him with some either raw goats/cows milk and see how he goes. I would also encourage plenty good meat and veggies with added butter. At least he is gaining, remembering he is more active now too, I think he just needs to catch up a wee bit, but does sound you are on the right track, but definately I would try accessing the raw milk, rather than pasteurised, just make sure the farmer drinks the milk! Otherwise raw goats milk is also a good alternative. Check out www.realmilk.com Hope that eases your mind a wee bit. Cheers Rachel
